What Is Mobility Coaching?

Mobility coaching is a program to help re-build decision making capabilities.

At Rise Calgary, we can help with immediate needs such as food resources, emergency assistance, and support with basic government forms. But our work doesn't stop there. While we can help clients complete applications and connect them to programs, our goal is to support long-term stability and success, not just short-term solutions.

That's where Mobility Coaching comes in.

We believe individuals are fully capable of making their own decisions. However, decisions are often influenced by habits, circumstances, and environmental factors that can make change difficult. Our coaches will never tell you how to live your life or make decisions on your behalf. You are the expert in your own life, and you know your needs, strengths, and challenges better than anyone else.

Instead, our coaches use motivational interviewing techniques to provide support, encouragement, and gentle nudges. Through guided conversations, we help clients identify their own goals, develop realistic action plans, and explore new ways of thinking. Often, the right questions can help uncover solutions that were already there.

Mobility Coaching is not about having someone else figure out your life for you. If you're looking for someone to make decisions on your behalf, this program may not be the right fit. However, if you have goals, ideas, or challenges you'd like to work through and need a supportive person to help organize your thoughts, stay accountable, or explore options, Mobility Coaching may be a good fit.

After each coaching session, clients leave with something practical to work on before the next meeting. These aren't necessarily large, life-changing goals. Sometimes progress starts with small steps, such as researching a new concept, writing down follow-up questions, attending a community event, or reaching out to a new support network. If a goal feels overwhelming, coaches work with clients to break it down into smaller, more achievable steps.

While many participants choose to focus on financial goals, Mobility Coaching takes a broader approach. Coaches can support clients across several areas of life, including:

Economic Well-Being – Building financial knowledge, improving money management skills, exploring employment opportunities, and working toward financial stability.

Social Connections – Strengthening support networks, reducing isolation, building relationships, and increasing community involvement.

Wellness – Developing coping strategies, improving emotional well-being, building resilience, and fostering a positive mindset.

If you're primarily looking for help with budgeting, debt management, or financial goal-setting, our Financial Coaching program may be the best fit. If you're looking for a more holistic approach that considers multiple areas of your life and personal growth, Mobility Coaching may be right for you.
