Basic Needs Support

We connect Calgarians to essential supports such as food, clothing, and other basic needs through community resources and partner agencies.

What to Expect

Every situation is different. Our Advocates work with individuals and families to understand needs, explore options, and connect people to the right supports.

We can help you:

  • Complete referrals to partner agencies
  • Navigate application processes
  • Find supports available to you

Essential Supports

We connect individuals and families to essential supports, including food, clothing, and household items. This may include referrals to community partners and, when available, direct assistance through Rise Calgary.

Clothing supports

Clothing Room (Ogden Location Only)
Our free Clothing Room at the Ogden location offers gently used clothing for individuals and families, along with small household items. This program is volunteer-run and supported by community donations.

Drop-in hours:

Monday: 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Tuesday: 1:00 p.m.– 4:00 p.m.

Wednesday–Friday: 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Please note: Clothing Room hours differ from Ogden Office’s regular drop-in hours. The hours listed above apply specifically to the Clothing Room. For general office and walk-in hours, please visit our Contact page.

Food support

We connect individuals and families to food programs across Calgary, including food banks and community food resources. Availability varies, and we can help you find current options based on your needs.

Family Activities

We help families access community programs and experiences that support well-being and connection. This may include referrals to partners such as TELUS Spark and Kids Up Front, as well as other local opportunities.

Computer Lab

(Available at Forest Lawn and Ogden locations)

Our free Computer Lab provides access to computers for job searching, applications, printing, and reporting requirements for programs such as ABWorks and Employment Insurance. Access is free during regular office hours on a first-come, first-served basis.

Shower Program

The shower program at our Forest Lawn office is currently paused due to limited volunteer capacity. We are actively recruiting volunteers to help restart this service.

Referrals

Our Advocates connect individuals and families to community programs and services, including food support, clothing, furniture, and household goods. Some programs may have wait-lists, eligibility requirements, or additional criteria. Contact us to explore what options may be available to you.

Applications & Advocacy

We help individuals and families navigate forms, benefits, and complex systems. This includes support with applications and advocacy with service providers when needed.

Our goal is to make these processes easier to understand and help you take the next step forward.

Income and Benefits Support

We assist with applications for government programs such as AISH, EI, CPP, Income Support, and Alberta Works. Support for other programs may also be available depending on need.

Appointments are required. Please contact us to book a time.

Appeals and complex cases

We provide support for more complex situations, including denied applications, appeals, and challenging cases. Assistance may include guidance, advocacy, and next-step planning based on availability.

If you’ve been denied a benefit or are facing a complicated situation, reach out and we’ll work through it with you.
