Need to file your taxes, we are here to help.

 

Thank you for choosing Rise Calgary to file your taxes this year.  Our team and amazing tax volunteers work hard to ensure everyone is served in a timely manner and this year we have made some changes to make our tax filing processes easier for the volunteers and quicker for you.

Please note: The current processing time for filing your taxes is approximately 6-8 weeks.

Our tax services are open for approximately 9-10 months of the year.

Filling Out Tax Form

Tax Filing Eligibility

  • We can assist with filing your taxes under certain conditions:

    • You must not be undergoing pre-bankruptcy proceedings during the years you are filing.

    • You must not be filing on behalf of a deceased person.

    • Your residency must not be outside of Canada or in Quebec as of December 32, 2023.

    • You must not have earned interest income exceeding $1000.

    • You must not own foreign property valued at more than $100,000.

  • If you have never filed taxes in Canada before and you are a newcomer, we recommend seeking assistance from organizations such as CIWA, Centre for Newcomers, or The Immigrant Education Society.

  • If you are self-employed, particularly engaged in gig-work, we may consider filing your taxes on a case-by-case basis, as it is considered a complex task.

How to file with Rise Calgary:
  1. Visit our office during drop-in hours to fill out 3 forms. No appointment is necessary during drop-in hours. Please come 30 minutes before closing time.

Bowness office: Mon, Tue, Wed  (1pm-4pm)

  • Client Tax Questionnaire: 

This gives the tax filing volunteer the information they need to assist with filing your tax return. Please make sure that this is filled out completely. If there is any missing information, it will delay your appointment.

  • Authorization Request – Signature Page

This allows the tax filing volunteer to access your tax information to then process your tax return. Tax filing volunteers will only have access to this for 24 hours once accessed. Please fill out all highlighted areas (Social Insurance Number, Given Name, Surname, Signature of Taxpayer, and Date of Signature).

  • CVITP Taxpayer Authorization TIS60

This allows Rise Calgary to file the return under the CVIT Program and submit the tax return on your behalf. Please complete section 1 Part A and B only.

2.  Bring a copy of Photo ID (government or driver’s license is preferred).

3. You can drop off the forms at one of our three office locations or fill them out while you're at our office.

  • We encourage you to come to our office spaces where an advocate can assist you.

  • If you cannot visit one of our location, please send an email to info@risecalgary.ca Attention:  Chantel or Mohammad. 

4.  Next Steps

  • Once all required documentation is provided, expect a call within 3-4 weeks to confirm the date when our tax filing volunteer will process your tax return. Please note that our tax filing volunteers operate on a weekly basis, from Monday to Sunday.

  • Should the tax volunteer encounter any issues while processing your taxes, you will be notified by phone on the scheduled filing date. There's no need for you to initiate another appointment or visit our location.

  • Following the completion of your tax filing by the volunteer, you will receive confirmation via email or phone call. This communication will also include your finished tax summary.

  • Due to our current high caseload, please anticipate a timeframe of 6-8 weeks from the date you submit your paperwork to the receipt of your finalized tax documents.
